Dua Lipa’s Obsession with Netting Takes Over Her Style

Netting comes in various forms in the fashion industry, ranging from macramé and crochet to slinky metallic mesh and sheer fibrous slips. However, it is most fitting on a beach, draped over a bikini, where clothing is typically discretionary. Dua Lipa recently demonstrated her fondness for this style during her vacation in Jamaica, showcasing two different netted outfits in a series of sun-drenched Instagram photos. As we anticipate warmer weather, these ensembles are excellent sources of inspiration.

For her initial appearance, she rocked a white mesh minidress paired with a matching white bikini. This created a monochromatic ensemble that added some Bohemian allure to a classic Bond girl-themed set, reminiscent of Ursula Andress’ iconic style. Lipa drew inspiration from Andress, stating on Instagram that the photos were taken at Jamaica’s Oracabessa Bay GoldenEye resort, where Ian Fleming crafted the James Bond novels. Lipa posed on ocean rocks in her crochet dress, creating a scene fit for The Little Mermaid’s live-action remake.

Lipa recently flaunted a stylish look in her latest fashion phase, featuring a pair of orange fisherman’s pants from Andreādamo’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection, teamed with a red and orange ombré blouse. To accentuate the ensemble, she wore a gold belly chain from Moya, along with a few gold necklaces. In another instance, Lipa opted for a floral neon bikini from Feline Swim. The current trend of delicate, shimmering netting has been prevalent on runways, with designers like Supriya Lele and Giorgio Armani showcasing the same. Netting is a more sophisticated take on crochet and macramé, but with a similar approach of revealing skin. Layering the netting in unique ways can enhance the look, like throwing on a netted mini over a bikini or pairing it with crop tops and straight-legged jeans for nighttime wear. With netting, the options are limitless.
